Madison Hts. woman, 20, shot in face with 'improperly handled gun'
Madison Heights — A 20-year-old woman Madison Heights was shot in the face Wednesday with an "improperly handled" gun, police said.
Madison Heights police officers were called to a hospital at about 10:19 p.m. Wednesday by staff who reported a female gunshot victim had been brought in for treatment, according to authorities. The woman had been shot in the face but was conscious upon arrival.
She told officers the shooting happened at a residence in the 26000 block of Wolverine near East Lincoln between John R and Dequindre.
Police went to the home and located and interviewed witnesses, officials said.
A preliminary investigation revealed "a handgun was being improperly handled when it went off, striking the victim," police said in a statement.
Authorities said the investigation into the shooting continues. Police released no other details.
