A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car Thursday in Lyon Township, Oakland County Sheriff's officials said.

A preliminary investigation found that the 22-year-old man appeared to have been walking with a friend on Grand River Avenue near Asbury Hill Drive about 10 p.m. when a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by a 40-year-old woman hit him.

"The pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk and was not wearing reflective clothing," investigators said in a statement Friday. "There were no streetlights on this portion of Grand River Avenue."

Medics rushed the victim to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi, where the Genoa Township resident died from his injuries, according to the release.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, sheriff's representatives said Friday.
