Lansing — A Hazel Park man has been sentenced to 6-20 years in prison for producing and distributing child sexually abusive material, officials said Friday.

Matthew Alain Dimitrie, 36, was charged in February and held on a $5 million bond.

Matthew Alain Dimitrie, 37, was given the sentence Tuesday by Oakland County Circuit Judge Leo Bowman, according to court records.

Dimitrie was charged in February with seven counts of distributing child sexually abusive material and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime. A judge ordered him held in Oakland County Jail on a $5 million bond.

In July, he pleaded guilty to one count of production of child sexually abusive material and a count of distribution of child sexually abusive material. The production charge, a felony, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and the distribution charge, also a felony, carries a penalty of up to four years in prison.

“Our office will use every available resource to prosecute those who prey on Michigan’s children to the fullest extent of the law,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Friday in a statement. “I appreciate the Court’s decision and commitment to ensuring justice in this case was served.”

Investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, officials said. They were able to trace material to a cellphone and got a warrant that led them to Dimitrie. Another warrant enabled police to search Dimitrie's home where they found the cellphone containing substantiating evidence, they said.
