Man shot, killed after domestic struggle, police say
Police are investigating a 23-year-old man's shooting death in Pontiac during a domestic struggle early Sunday morning.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office was called to the 100 block of Cherry Hill, north of West Kennett and east of Telegraph, just before 3:45 a.m. Sunday to respond to a shooting.
The call came from a 23-year-old woman, who said the father of her 3-year-old child "had been strangling her and striking her in the face," according to a statement from the sheriff's office. She responded by shooting him in the stomach, calling 911 and waiting outside.
Deputies found the man lying on the living room floor. He had been shot in his stomach, and was unconscious, but still breathing. Medics transported him to McLaren hospital, but he died from his injuries.
Police arrested the woman and transported her to Oakland County Jail. They turned over the 3-year-old child to family members.
The sheriff's office says it will present a warrant request Tuesday morning to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
