Car plunges into lake, killing couple in Oakland County
Pontiac — Two people died after their car plunged into an Oakland County lake, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies, the dive team for the sheriff's office and Waterford firefighters were called at about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday to the 200 block of South Merrimac on a report that a vehicle was submerged in Terry Lake.
A caller told officials he heard a vehicle accelerate, saw it become airborne and then land in the lake. He also told dispatchers the vehicle was sinking. It was completely submerged when authorities arrived.
The dive team located the car in about 25 feet of water and at the bottom of the lake.
A tow truck recovered the vehicle and officials found two occupants inside, police said.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office identified the victims as Robert Grandberry, 69, and Cathy Grandberry, 67, and said an autopsy showed their cause of death was drowning.
"There are indications the driver, Mr. Grandberry, may have had a medical issue prior to going into the lake," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
