Bicyclist fatally struck by train on Detroit’s west side

Dearborn — A man has died after being struck by a train while he was riding his bike early Tuesday morning on the city’s west side.

According to the Detroit Police Department, the incident occurred at about 1 a.m. at Greenfield and Tireman.

“An unknown pedestrian riding a bike was attempting to cross the railroad tracks at Greenfield and Tireman and was struck by a CSX train,” said Sgt. Michael Woody of the Detroit Police Department.

The victim was conveyed by the Dearborn Police Department Rescue Team to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

By 7 a.m., a smashed-up bicycle was in the back of a patrol car and the train remained stopped one block from the intersection.
