Teen who said she found baby by Highland Park dumpster admits she’s child’s mother
The teen who claimed to have found a baby boy by a Highland Park dumpster Saturday morning is actually the child's mother, police say.
WXYZ-TV reports that Highland Park police say the teen admitted that she actually gave birth to the boy to workers at Children's Hospital.
The teen earlier claimed she found the baby around 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning near a dumpster near Hamilton Avenue and Grand Street in Highland Park.
The boy is healthy and doing OK, police said Saturday afternoon. The teen is unlikely to face charges, Highland Park Police Chief Kevin Coney said.
Michigan has a safe-haven law, which allows a parent to leave a newborn up to 3 days old anonymously at a police station, hospital, or fire station.
