Shooting on Detroit’s west side leaves 1 dead

Detroit — One person is dead after a shooting on the city’s west side early Monday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 8:15 p.m. on Dayton near Penrod, in an area west of the Southfield Freeway and north of Ford Road.

“We received a call about shots fired,” said Sgt. Michael Woody.

“The victim was found at the location and had suffered several gun shot wounds to the body. Witnesses said that the victim — 40 and of an unknown address — was standing on the side walk when an unknown suspect walked up and shot him before fleeing on foot.”

The suspect is described as six feet tall and was wearing a black hat, a black hoodie and gym shorts.
