Livonia — Police have released the identification of a Detroit man who died in a crash on Interstate 275 early Thursday morning.

Jamal Banks, 32, died at the scene when his vehicle slammed into a median barrier on northbound I-275 in an area just south of Eight Mile at about 3:25 a.m.

An investigation by police has determined that Banks had pulled his 1992 Chrysler LeBaron onto the shoulder of the freeway where it was rear-ended by a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by a 27-year-old man from Trenton who received minor injuries.

Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
