Detroit homeowner fatally shoots possible intruder

Detroit — Police are questioning a homeowner who fatally shot a man who reportedly broke into his house Monday morning on the city’s southwest side.

According to police, the shooting occurred at about 7:50 a.m. in the 8400 block of Whittaker, in an area south of Vernor Highway and between Springwells and Lawndale.

Police said the 34-year-old suspect died at the scene after being shot by the 51-year-old homeowner. At this time, the homeowner has not been charged in the shooting.
