A 22-year-old Garden City man was killed Friday night in a rollover crash on Interstate 275 near Cherry Hill Road in Canton.

Ronald Stanley Kaczynski was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2005 GMC Jimmy was involved in a four-car accident.

Police say traffic on northbound I-275 was approaching the beginning of a construction zone on the roadway, closing off the left lane, at around 9 p.m. Traffic began to slow down but Kaczynski was unable to slow down in time. He hit a 2013 Mercedes in front of him, pushing that car into a third vehicle. Kaczynski’s car was then hit from behind by a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse, flipping his car.

The Canton Fire Department was the first on the scene and extricated the victim from the car. The driver of the Traverse also suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Nobody else involved was injured, police say.

Police did not say whether alcohol or seat belt use was a factor in the crash.

The northbound lanes of I-275 were shut down until 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The investigation is ongoing.
