M-1 Rail work to close I-75 this weekend

The Detroit News

Detroit — Demolition of part of the Woodward bridge over Interstate 75 will force the closure of the freeway this weekend.

Crews working on the M-1 Rail project will demolish the west half of the overpass beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. I-75 will be closed between I-375 and the Lodge Freeway for the work.

Detours will be posted. The ramps from northbound and southbound M-10 to southbound I-75 will remain open.

The freeway is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

The work is part of the 3.3-mile M-1 Rail streetcar line that will run from downtown to the New Center area. The $137 million publicly and privately funded line is expected to be operational by fall 2016.
