Detroit — Authorities say children who were in a wooded area on Detroit’s west side found suspected human remains Thursday evening.

Police received a call at 5:10 p.m. with reports of bones discovered near the Rouge River. Police and the medical examiner’s office responded.

“The remains were found in the woods behind the 23000 block of West McNichols,” Sgt. Michael Woody said.

Police say the remains are believed to be of an adult.

The medical examiner’s office is expected to work to identify the remains and determine how long they may have been in the area.
