Detroit — Authorities have charged the mother of a 7-year-old boy and her boyfriend with felony murder and torture after his death.

According to police, Victoria Joan Foster, 22, and Cory Ivan Rimson, 28, were charged Friday in the death of Immanuel Foster.

An autopsy Friday showed bruises and abrasions and determined the boy weighed 27 pounds at the time he died. According to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, further testing is needed to determine the official cause of death. Those results were still pending Monday.

According to police, the child’s body had been taken to Henry Ford Hospital at about 6 a.m. Thursday after he reportedly suffering cardiac arrest at home.

Later that day, police were called to the hospital after it was discovered the boy’s body “had what appeared to be some bruising” consistent with child abuse, Sgt. Michael Woody of the Detroit Police Department said.

The child was living in a home in the 2200 block of Richton on the city’s west side.

There was no record of abuse complaints regarding the family being filed in Detroit with child protective services, according to police.

Foster and Rimson remain in custody and will have a preliminary examination at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6 before Judge Joseph Baltimore in 36th District Court.
