Detroit — One person was killed in a one-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning on the city’s east side.

According to the Michigan State Police, a 39-year-old Detroit man died at about 2 a.m. when his GMC Yukon lost control on eastbound Interstate 94, between Gratiot and Van Dyke, hit the embankment and then rolled.

The unidentified victim, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to a local hospital where he was declared dead. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.

The crash closed the freeway until about 4:30 a.m.
