Detroit — A 16-year-old school girl is in serious condition Friday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on the city’s east side.

According to the Detroit Police Department, the incident occurred at about 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of Conant and Charles, in an area south of East Davison and east of Interstate 75.

The unidentified teenager is a student at Frontier International Academy.

“The victim was crossing the street when she was struck by a white van,” Sgt. Michael Woody said. “The van knocked her to the ground and one of the front wheels ran over her leg. The van fled the scene. She was taken to a local hospital where she is in serious condition.”

Police do not have a good description of the van and are still interviewing witnesses.
