Detroit — Police and fire officials are trying to determine the identity of a woman whose body was found in a burning pickup on the city’s east side Friday morning.

At about 6 a.m., first responders were alerted to a fire in the 5260 block of Beaconsfield in an area between Outer Drive and Warren and between Alter and Balfour.

“Once the fire department arrived on the scene they discovered a new model, possibly white or silver, Chevrolet pickup truck on fire near the garage at that location,” Sgt. Michael Woody said.

“Once the fire was extinguished, the body of what appeared to be a heavy-set white female was discovered sitting in the passenger seat.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department at (313) 596-2200 or Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK UP.
