Detroit — The weather was perfect for ice skating Friday as the rink at Campus Martius opened for a weekend preview.

With temperatures hovering in the mid-30s, skaters took to the ice as darkness fell in downtown Detroit. The rink will be open again from 10 a.m.-midnight Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.

The skating season at the downtown park opens officially on Friday, following the 2014 Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The cost to skate is $8 for 13- to 49-year-olds and $7 for children 12 and younger and adults 50 and older. Skates can be rented for $3.
