— When America's Thanksgiving Parade makes its way down Woodward next week, Naomi West's float will be part of the procession.

Naomi, an eighth-grader at Detroit's Earhart Elementary-Middle School, won a float design contest sponsored by the Parade Company and the Skillman Foundation. A float based on her drawing was unveiled Wednesday at the Parade Company studio on Mount Elliott

The 23rd annual Skillman Foundation's Float Design Contest was open to Detroit public and charter students in grades four through eight.

During the parade next Thursday, Naomi will escort the float she designed down Woodward, joined by floats that will include the likenesses of famous Detroiters such as Aretha Franklin and Coleman Young.
