Canton Township — Police say a 38-year-old man has died after stepping in front of an Amtrak passenger train.

Police say the man from St. Clair was hit Thursday night several hundred feet from a railroad crossing in Wayne County’s Canton Township. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No passengers on the train were injured.

The man’s name wasn’t immediately released and the crash is under investigation. Police say the death appears to have been a suicide.
