Wayne Co. commission selects water authority rep
Detroit — The Wayne County Commission has unanimously voted to approve Joseph Nardone as the county’s representative to the Great Lakes Water Authority.
The selection, approved in a 14-0 vote on Thursday, is good through Dec. 18, 2016.
Nardone, 53, is head of the transition team for incoming Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, who will take over for outgoing Executive Robert Ficano on Jan. 1.
A resident of Grosse Ile, Nardone has been director of development for the Wayne County Airport Authority since November 2012. He is also CEO of VantagePort, which promotes the development of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport-Willow Run Airport Corridor.
Nardone is a 1985 graduate of Michigan State University and grew up in Taylor. He has previously worked for the Wayne County Parks Division, including as its director.
The Great Lakes Water Authority was created this year to manage operations that were run by the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.
On Oct. 2, the Wayne County Commission voted 14-1 to join the authority, which is to be operational within 200 days of that vote.
Detroit has two members on the six-person board; Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties and the state of Michigan each have one.
