Detroit — A 19-year-old Detroit man is expected to be arraigned Monday on a manslaughter charge in the Christmas Day shooting death of another teen.

Authorities say Dwayne Sharper Jr. was handling a gun in a home in the 4100 block of Virginia Park when it discharged, striking 16-year-old Bernard Walker of Detroit. Walker died from his injuries a day later.

Sharper has been charged with manslaughter, felony firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. He is expected to be arraigned at 9 a.m. before Wayne County Circuit Judge Cynthia Hathaway.

He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
