Dearborn Heights — A woman has been identified after she was found dead on the side of a road early Monday morning, according to police.

“She had no ID on her but through fingerprint records we’ve been able to identify her,” Chief Lee Gavin said. “We’re in the process of trying to notify her next of kin.”

The woman, in her mid-40s, was found around 1 a.m. on Powers Street near John Daly Road in an area east of Inkster Road and north of Van Born, Gavin said.

She was badly bruised with scrapes on her face, he said. She was wrapped in a nightgown, bedsheets and blanket.

Gavin said officers found fresh tire tracks at the scene, but it is unclear if they came from a vehicle with a connection to the body.

“We’re assuming someone dropped her off there, but we don’t have a description of a vehicle or anything like that,” he said.

The woman’s body was taken to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, Gavin said.
