Jayru Campell won’t be charged in alleged jail assault
Detroit — Prosecutors say there isn’t enough evidence to support criminal charges against Jayru Campbell after an inmate was assaulted last year at the Wayne County Jail.
The prosecutor’s office on Friday announced it completed a warrant review related to the Aug. 31 incident and the former Detroit prep football star.
The 18-year-old who assaulted a school security officer and later pushed his girlfriend was released from jail Wednesday. He served a 60-day jail sentence for body-slamming a security guard in January 2014. On the same September day he was released, authorities say he pushed a 17-year-old girl to the ground at Cass Technical High School.
Campbell received a seven-month sentence, with credit for time served, for violating his probation. He pleaded guilty in November to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.
