Westland police have arrested a suspect in a pair of armed robberies reported back to back Friday on the same city street.

Officers were dispatched to Chase Bank in the 31000 block of Cherry Hill after a 911 hang-up call. Dispatchers learned from employees that the bank had just been robbed, police said.

While police responded to that incident, another call came in about a robbery in progress at the nearby CVS Pharmacy. Officers reached both spots and gathered a description of the suspect, who was believed to have a gun.

After checking the area, officers from the Westland Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office found a man matching that description in front of the Village of Westland — also on Cherry Hill.

“Upon speaking with the 31-year-old Canton resident, he was placed under arrest for the armed robbery of both the Chase Bank and the CVS Pharmacy,” Westland police said in a statement.

Police said money was recovered from the suspect, whose identification was being withheld pending his arraignment.
