Detroit firefighter suffers minor injury at blaze

Detroit — A firefighter is recovering Wednesday morning after slipping on an icy sidewalk while battling a blaze that destroyed three vacant homes on the city’s north side.

The fire broke out at about 3:30 a.m. on Coventry near Eight Mile and Interstate 75. Three vacant homes were full involved when firefighters arrived on the scene.

One firefighter slipped on the ice and was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with back injuries. He is expected to fully recover. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
