Canton Township police are searching for a missing senior citizen who was last seen leaving the University of Michigan Health System’s Canton Health Center about 4 p.m. Thursday.

Helen Krysan, 88, was expected to head to her home in Westland after leaving the center on North Canton Center Road, police said. She was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus station wagon with a Michigan license plate 009F5.

She is described as 5 foot, 1 inches tall, 130 pounds with blue eyes and white hair. She usually wears eyeglass, police said. Police did not provide a description of the clothing she was wearing.

Time is of the essence since Krysan has gone missing as Arctic temperatures grip the region.

Temperatures by 10 p.m. hovered in the single digits with wind chills expected to make temperatures feel as though it is minus 15 before sunrise, the National Weather Service said.

A strengthening low is pushing a strong cold front through early Saturday, ushering in some of the coldest air of the season.

Canton Township police ask anyone with information or who has seen Krysan to contact the department at (734) 394-5400.
