Mom, boyfriend face murder trial in death of boy
Detroit — A Detroit judge has ordered a 22-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend to stand trial on first-degree murder and torture charges in the death of the woman’s 7-year-old son, who weighed only 27 pounds.
Immanuel Foster died Oct. 24 at a hospital after complaining of abdominal pain and losing consciousness. Judge Shannon Holmes of 36th District Court ruled Thursday that there’s probable cause to send Victoria Foster and Cory Rimson to trial in Wayne County Circuit Court.
The Detroit couple’s first hearing in trial court is scheduled March 13.
Authorities say they removed two other children from the home.
An autopsy found bruises and abrasions, and determined Immanuel weighed 27 pounds at the time of his death.
He reportedly went into cardiac arrest before he was brought to Henry Ford Hospital. Police were called after the hospital discovered bruising consistent with child abuse, Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody said in October.
