A condominium in Livonia was significantly damaged by fire Friday afternoon, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire started around 2:45 p.m. at the On the Pond complex near Eight Mile and Gill. Fire officials have not released the cause.

Firefighters arrived to find a second-floor unit in one of the complex’s eight buildings ablaze. An elderly resident of the lower unit was removed from the building before the upper unit collapsed, according to Livonia Fire Chief Shadd Whitehead.

The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross are providing help for six displaced families, officials said.

The Livonia Fire Department, assisted by Farmington Hills and Northville Township, brought the fire under control shortly before 5 p.m., Whitehead said.
