Inkster police chief resigns amid Dent case
Inkster police Chief Vicki Yost has resigned, city officials confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
Yost's resignation is effective immediately, said Inkster Mayor Hilliard Hampton.
Her resignation comes as the city's Police Department drew criticism following an incident in which a former police officer was captured on video punching a man during a January arrest. That officer, William Melendez, was charged Tuesday with assault and misconduct charges.
Yost is the second Inkster police chief to resign in less than a year. She was named interim chief after former Chief Hilton Napoleon resigned last July in the wake of the city's financial troubles, reduced police force and rising crime. Hampton at the time said the chief's job "just became overwhelming."
