Man charged with manslaughter in death of U.S. Steel worker
A 48-year-old Sterling Heights man was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on a manslaughter charge in connection with the fatal accident that killed a U.S. Steel employee struck by a semitrailer, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's office.
Miho Saljic, 48, was allegedly backing up his semitrailer loaded with steel coils around 1 p.m. Saturday when he struck Heather Deshawn Warren, 41, who died instantly.
Warren was an employee of U.S. Steel at the Great Lakes Works Cold Mill Shipping in Ecorse. Warren was acting as a spotter helping another truck maneuver through the facility when she was struck, according to her family.
The manslaughter charge carries a 15-year maximum penalty.
Saljic received a personal bond and placed on a tether, according to the prosecutor's office. He returns to 26th District Court May 5 for a preliminary examination.
