Romulus — According to various media reports the Amber Alert for a 16-month-old boy, reportedly taken during a carjacking was called off.

Police say the alert was canceled Saturday around 8 a.m. after Ayden Casteels was found in Westland.

The toddler’s mother told police he was taken from the Howard Johnson hotel on Flynn Road, near Merriman Road, after a man drove off in a vehicle with the child inside.

The child was found after someone saw the suspect on foot Saturday morning and called police. The suspect was arrested.

The child was found sleeping in the back seat of the car parked nearby.

Ayden’s mother, Marrianne Casteels, told police she was with her boyfriend and child when the carjacking happened. She said they had gone to get food and then headed back to the hotel in Romulus around 2 a.m. Saturday.

As Casteels got out of the car to get Ayden, she alleges a man jump over a fence and forced his way into the vehicle and drove off.
