Michigan Technical Academy in Redford Township was on lockdown Monday following a dispute over traffic at a house next door to the school, according to police.

Around 2:35 p.m., a man living next door to the middle school on Elmira was seen outside his home with a rifle, said Lt. David Holt with the Redford Township Police.

“The gentleman at the house may have been upset about the parking or traffic situation,” he said. “A rifle was seen. There is no basis to believe he threatened anybody.”

Holt said those involved in the dispute were talking amicably with police.

The school received notification from police to end the lockdown around 3:15 p.m., 20 minutes after normal dismissal time, said Jenay Kightlinger, director for human resources for the school.
