Woman arraigned in Canton Twp. shooting
Canton Township — A Detroit woman has been charged and arraigned in a non-fatal shooting that occurred in the city on Friday.
On Tuesday, Jnaya Shanell Booker, 31, was arraigned in 35th District Court on the following charges:
■ Discharge of firearm in a building causing serious impairment, a 20-year-felony.
■ Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a 10-year felony.
■ Assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony.
■ Felony firearm, a two-year prison sentence.
On Friday, the Canton police and fire departments responded to a 911 call about shots fired inside an apartment in the 8000 block of Nectar Drive.
Upon arrival, first responders found a 49-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her leg. She remains hospitalized and police have declined to list her medical condition.
According to witnesses, the victim had been in a fight with Booker immediately before the shots were fired.
Booker was arrested a short time later.
Judge Ronald Lowe set Booker’s bond at $500,000 cash. Her preliminary exam is set for July 6 at 35th District Court, 660 Plymouth Road, Plymouth.
