Reward offered after bomb left on Melvindale gas meter

Melvindale — Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the person who left a pipe bomb on top of a gas meter on May 30.

Crime Stoppers announced the reward in a press release issued Thursday morning.

Officers from the Melvindale Police Department responded to Kelly’s Mini-Mart, located in the 18060 Allen Road, upon reports that a pipe bomb had been placed on top of a natural gas meter in the rear of the building.

The device was deactivated by members of the Michigan State Police bomb squad.

There were orange, blue and white wires attached to a cellphone, which was attached to the metal pipe with black electrical tape. The interior of the metal pipe contained gunpowder and BBs.
