Speeders in Livonia, Independence Twp. targeted

Livonia/Independence Township — In an effort to cut down on speeds and aggressive driving, troopers from the Michigan State Police special enforcement section conducted two metro area traffic blitzes on Thursday.

In Livonia, troopers made 189 traffic stops on Interstate 275 near Seven Mile. By the end of the campaign, the MSP had issued 137 citations for speeding, 22 for seat belt violations, 25 for other violations and eight for distracted driving.

They also made four arrests and issued verbal warnings to 164 drivers. The top speed recorded during the enforcement was 93 mph.

In Independence Township, troopers made 198 stops on I-75 near Clintonville Road.

Officers issued 124 speeding citations (top speed recorded was 104 mph), 17 seat belt citations, 12 tickets for distracted driving and 20 citations for other violations.

Troopers also arrested nine drivers and issued 126 verbal warnings.
