GP Farms mom charged with fleeing police with infant in car
A 38-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon for allegedly fleeing police early Monday morning with her one-month-old son in the car.
Courtney Ann Peck is charged with fleeing and eluding, fourth degree child abuse and reckless driving.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office, at 3:05 a.m. Monday Peck was allegedly parked in a no trespassing zone in the 140 block of Lakeshore in Grosse Pointe Farms. As an officer attempted to investigate the car, Peck allegedly sped off. During a traffic stop in the 230 block of Lakeshore the officer observed Peck’s one-month-old son in a child seat. Peck, again sped off, according to the prosecutor.
“A responding back-up officer and a fully marked police car attempted to stop the fleeing car but quickly terminated the pursuit when advised there was an infant in the car,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement Tuesday.
Grosse Pointe Park police began pursuing Peck’s vehicle as it headed westbound on Jefferson. Officers used stop sticks to stop the car at Jefferson and Crane in Detroit. Peck was arrested and her unharmed son was placed with relatives.
Peck is expected to be arraigned before Judge Matthew Rumora in Grosse Pointe Farms Municipal Court.
