Wayne County will host a free event Thursday to help residents improve their health.

The county’s Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness will host the 10th annual Family Fun Fest at the county health center at 33030 Van Born near Venoy in Wayne. The health fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The goal of the Family Fun Fest is to provide a day of fun and recreation while inspiring individuals, families, organizations and communities to focus on the physical and mental health and wellness of themselves and others,” said Mouhanad Hammami, the department’s director.

Health information, screenings and child immunizations as well as games and activities for all ages will be offered.

More than 300 backpacks with school supplies will be distributed to students ages 5-17. Gleaners Food Bank will give out 200 bags of food. There also will be a raffle for bicycles and safety helmets, a child car seat and an infant pack-and-play.

“With more than 50 partners, the Family Fun Fest is a valuable resource that provides important health services and awareness to Wayne County residents who need them the most,” county Executive Warren Evans said in a statement Tuesday. “I’m encouraging anyone who can benefit from this great event to take advantage of this day of health care, information and fun.”

Evans plans to attend the fair about noon Thursday for the raffle.
