Redford Township crews were working Wednesday night to repair main breaks in at least 10 locations in the city, police said.

The Police Department said breaks were reported Wednesday afternoon and water department workers would be responding through the night.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, which operates a pumping station near Schoolcraft and Berwyn, told police that a DTE circuit breaker “tripped” there around 4 p.m., causing a higher-than-normal water pressure surge through the lines, which in turn sparked the breaks.

It wasn’t clear how long the break repairs would take. Police said there were no major road closures, and a boil advisory hadn’t been issued.

To report a main break, township residents can call (313) 387-2551.
