Harper Woods police probe violent crimes
Harper Woods — Police have their hands full after two violent crimes took place on Saturday.
According to police, a woman was attacked, robbed and raped at the Parkcrest Inn at about 2:30 a.m. when an armed man forced his way into her room and announced a robbery.
Police said the woman was then raped. When she tried to escape, her attacker fired one shot at her but missed. He then ran from the motel and was last seen in the parking lot of the inn.
He was described as a male, late teens, 5-foot-10 with a thin build and a dark complexion. The victim was transported to St. Johns Hospital for treatment for her assault.
The Parkcrest Inn is located at 20000 Harper Ave. in an area south of Eight Mile and west of Mack.
In March, two men armed men attacked and robbed a clerk at the Parkcrest Inn after forcing their way behind the counter. The men fled after receiving an undetermined amount of cash.
The second attack on Saturday occurred at about 10:30 p.m. when three armed robbers forced their way into a home in the 20400 block of Woodland in an area between Beaconsfield and Harper and north of Moross.
The occupants were bound with duct tape and then locked into a closet. The robbers threatened to shoot the victims if they didn’t cooperate.
They then ransacked the home, taking money, jewelry and other items of value.
The invaders also stole a Cadillac Escalade which belonged to one of the victims. It was later recovered in Detroit.
According to police, one of the victims was able to text a relative for help while being held in the closet. Police were notified and were able to free the victims after the suspects fled the area.
None of the victims were seriously injured in the incident.
The only description of the suspects is three males, early teens and wearing masks and dark clothing.
