Grosse Ile — A traffic crash on the Wayne County Bridge Thursday morning will likely keep the span closed until early afternoon, according to a township official.

The crash, which resulted in minor injuries to the driver and passenger, occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on what is locally known as the “free bridge” over the Trenton Channel in the Detroit River.

“The police and fire department decided to close the bridge so they could do accident reconstruction,” said Township Supervisor Brian Loftus.

There are two bridges that connect Grosse Ile to the mainland: the Wayne County Bridge and the privately owned Grosse Ile Toll Bridge on the northern end of the island.
