Livonia — A Livonia man has been charged in connection with the death of his 10-week-old child, which has been ruled a homicide.

Police were called to the 38000 blocks of Summers at about 9:35 p.m. Sept. 21 because the child was unresponsive. Mark Patrick Hontz, 33, told police that he fell down the stairs while holding the baby.

The child was transported to the hospital and died from injuries the next night.

“Medical assessment of the injuries, along with the preliminary results of the autopsy, revealed that the infant was a victim of homicide,” according to a release from the Livonia Police Department.

Hontz was arrested Sept. 24 and booked at Livonia’s jail.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Hontz with felony murder and first-degree child abuse.

Hontz’s preliminary examination is scheduled for Oct. 15, and Hontz is being held without bond at the Wayne County Jail until then.
