A pedestrian died Tuesday evening after she was struck by a car while trying to cross Telegraph Road in Redford Township, police said.

The 47-year-old township resident was not in the crosswalk but crossing at a traffic light near Glendale when a southbound 2013 Mercedes hit her in the left lane about 5:30 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian, whose name had not been released Tuesday night, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 27-year-old woman from Dearborn, stopped and was questioned. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. They did not take her into custody Tuesday night. Other information was not released.

Part of Telegraph was closed while authorities investigated the accident; all lanes were reopened by 10 p.m.
