Wayne Co. Lightfest to twinkle through holidays

Massive colored-light archways illuminate Hines Drive as final preparations for Wayne County Lightfest are underway. It opens to the public Thursday.

One of the Metro area’s brightest holiday light shows is about to be turned on.

The Wayne County Lightfest will be open to the public beginning Wednesday when bikers can ride among the lights along Hines Drive. Entry fee for Bike Through the Lights is $25.

The more than four miles of holiday lights and displays between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren in Westland will formally open to the public Thursday. It has more than 47 giant, animated holiday displays. All the lights have been converted to LED, which is better for the environment.

Don Williams of Wayne County Parks checks multi-colored light bulbs. The display will be open throughout the holiday season, except Christmas Day.

Cost is $5 per vehicle. Hours are 7-10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 6-10 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. The display is closed Christmas Day.
