Roseville — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in the robbery of a 7-Eleven store early Wednesday.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the 19901 block of Masonic when a suspect entered and walked around the counter while displaying a handgun.

The suspect fired one round, which hit a display of cigarettes.

Police are unsure if the suspect intended to shoot an employee or was just trying to scare the employee and a customer.

The employee gave the gunman an unknown amount of cash from the register, at which point the suspect fled the store.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s. He is about 6 feet tall and was wearing a dark knit cap, dark North Face jacket, gray pants and white tennis shoes.

He escaped in a tan or light-gold 2000 GMC SUV with a Michigan plate reading DAK5991. According to police, the vehicle was stolen from Detroit shortly before the robbery.

There were at least two other people in the stolen vehicle when it drove away. Police encountered the SUV traveling westbound on Interstate 94 near 11 Mile.

Police pursued the vehicle but broke off the chase in the area of I-94 and Conner.
