Detroit slaying suspect grabs Westland squad car, crashes it
So what do you say to your superiors when a murder suspect speeds off in your squad car?
That’s what Westland police had to deal with after a man officials say is connected to a recent slaying in Detroit led them on a brief chase Monday afternoon when he allegedly stole a police cruiser.
Authorities had tracked the suspect to an area near Wayne and Joy in Westland, police said.
He was wanted in the fatal shooting of another man Nov. 16 on Blaine in Detroit after an argument, Detroit police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said. A warrant had been issued for his arrest.
During a search, the suspect climbed into a Westland squad car and sped off, police said.
Shortly after, the man crashed near Warren and Lotz, Westland police said.
He has been turned over to Detroit police custody. Charges were pending Monday night.
