Taylor homeowner could face charges in intruder shooting
A 31-year-old Taylor homeowner could face charges on allegations he shot an intruder who was in his garage early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened around 2:50 a.m. in the 8000 block of Oak Street, said Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi.
The homeowner told police he heard someone in the garage and came face to face with an intruder, Sclabassi said.
“The intruder was trying to leave the garage and a shot was fired,” she said.
The alleged intruder, a 27-year-old Flat Rock man, was taken to the hospital where he was to undergo surgery.
At some point, someone from the house called 911 to make police aware of what happened, police said.
Police initially arrested the homeowner, but were advised by the Wayne County’s Prosecutor’s Office to release him pending further investigation into the circumstances, Sclabassi said.
Police plan to submit the case to the prosecutor for review. The warrant request had not yet been submitted as of late Wednesday morning, Sclabassi said.
