Two Inkster men are expected to survive their injuries after being shot at the Cherry Hill Club Apartments early Tuesday morning, said Lt. Jim Smiley of the Michigan State Police.

The Cherry Hill Club Apartments are near Cherry Hill and Henry Ruff roads.

The shooting occurred about 3:30 a.m., when what police describe as a caramel-skinned black male, 18 to 20 years old, wearing a red jacket with the letters “Pepe” on it, began opening fire. Six or more people were in the apartment at the time. Two were hit, Smiley said.

Police are seeking the gunman, who fled after the shooting.

The victims are both Inkster residents, Smiley said, but live elsewhere in town. One victim was hit in the arm and treated at an area hospital. The other victim was hit in the abdomen and still was being treated as of 7:15 a.m., Smiley said.

Smiley described their injuries as non-life threatening. Since 2011, Michigan State Police have investigated all shootings and homicides in Inkster.
