Dearborn — Police are looking for witnesses after a mysterious crash left a young man dead Sunday evening.

A Honda Accord left the roadway and struck several traffic signs around 8:30 p.m. off eastbound Ford Road near Hawthorne Street, according to police. The vehicle was occupied by five male Dearborn residents, ages 19-20.

The front-seat passenger sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said. No other occupants were injured.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the incident, which remains under investigation.

“This is a terrible tragedy and we are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to please contact (police),” Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement. “The Dearborn Police Department offers its condolences for all of those involved.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department’s Accident Investigation Bureau at (313) 943-2246.
