A man who is “well known to law enforcement” was found shot dead in Inkster early Thursday morning, Michigan State Police said in a statement.

This is the fourth homicide of the year in Inkster, a town of about 25,000 people.

Police responded to a call of a man down at the 1400 block of Jeffrey Lane, near Parkwood, at about 12:15 a.m. Jeffrey Lane is west of Middle Belt and south of Avondale. They found a man there, dead of gunshot wounds.

“This was not a random shooting,” the police said in a statement.

Those who have information on the shooting are being asked to call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers tipsters remain anonymous. Calls are taken at a call center in Canada that does not have caller ID.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses, and police have notified the man’s next-of-kin.

Michigan State Police have investigated homicides and shootings in the suburb since 2011.
